About Us

Started in 1977, Michigan Shelf your Home Resource Center was the pioneer of the closet organization industry in Michigan.  We have continued to lead the closet industry over the past 30 years and have added many other Lifestyle enhancing products for the home. Closet organization has evolved to organization for the entire home which includes: *Wire Ventilated Shelving * Custom Laminate Closet Systems * Garage Organization * Home Offices * Pantries * Basements * Play Rooms * Entertainment Centers and many other personalized organization solutions.

Adrian Allen purchased Michigan Shelf Distributors (MSD) October 1, 1981. It was a one man company installing and distributing ClosetMaid wire ventilated shelving to home builders during the worst recession since the great depression.  Wire shelving at the time was considered just for the south and was hard to sell this far north.

In 1985 MSD expanded its product line to include mirrors and shower doors. It was a natural fit since they both are installed during the same phase of construction. That move doubled the growth every year for the next five years. As MSD was capitalizing on this new package of products for the home builder, the glass shops that were losing customers to MSD soon began to offer wire ventilated shelving too.

During the 1990’s, wire ventilated shelving became the standard choice of closet shelving for home builders. Laminate custom closets started to evolve as the premium closets for home owners to upgrade with and high end homes.

In 1998 MSD showed its innovated ability to provide a unique package of products to the home builder by adding laminate countertops. Door and bath hardware was also added to complete the exclusive builder one-stop-shop concept.

Today, MSD is a leader in the building industry with its one-stop-shop home solutions of Closet Systems, Mirrors, Shower Doors, Countertops and hardware. The team at Michigan Shelf is dedicated to provide the best products and unsurpassed service to the home industry.  Recently joining the customer team is Adrian’s Son, Nic Allen and Brother, Horace Allen.

We thank you for taking the time to read our history and if you give us the honor and trust with your business, we are confident that our products and installation teams surpass your expectations
