We started in 1977, and Michigan Shelf Distributors, your Home Resource Center, was the pioneer of the closet organization industry in Michigan. Over the past 30 years, we have continued to lead the closet industry and have expanded our offerings to include many other lifestyle-enhancing products for the home. Closet organization has evolved into solutions for the entire home, which includes: *Wire Ventilated Shelving * Custom Laminate Closet Systems * Garage Organization * Home Offices * Pantries * Basements * Play Rooms * Entertainment Centers, and many other personalized organization solutions. 

Adrian Allen purchased Michigan Shelf Distributors (MSD) on October 1, 1981. Initially, it was a one-man company installing and distributing ClosetMaid wire ventilated shelving to home builders during the worst recession since the Great Depression. At that time, wire shelving was primarily considered suitable for the southern states, making it difficult to sell in the north. 

In 1985, Michigan Shelf Distributors expanded its product line to include mirrors and shower doors. This was a natural fit, as both products are installed during the same phase of construction. This strategic move resulted in doubled growth every year for the next five years. As MSD capitalized on this new product package for home builders, glass shops that were losing customers to Michigan Shelf Distributors soon began to offer wire ventilated shelving as well. 

During the 1990s, wire ventilated shelving became the standard choice for closet shelving among home builders, while laminate custom closets emerged as the premium option for homeowners looking to upgrade their high-end homes. 

In 1998, Michigan Shelf Distributors showcased its innovative ability to provide a unique package of products to home builders by adding laminate countertops. Door and bath hardware were also incorporated to complete the exclusive builder one-stop-shop concept. 

Today, Michigan Shelf Distributors is a leader in the building industry with its one-stop-shop home solutions, including Closet Systems, Mirrors, Shower Doors, Countertops, and hardware. The team at Michigan Shelf is dedicated to providing the best products and unsurpassed service to the home industry. Recently, Adrian's son, Nic Allen, and brother, Horace Allen, joined the customer team.
